About Harbinder
My given name "Harbinder" means "absorbed in god". I am currently 35 years of age, hoping to get younger with passing time.
Currently I work for a company called Aryty which is a part of Gorilla Mobile a US based telecom company. Aryty is focused on gifting of mobile airtime product targeted at the expat population wanting to gift mobile recharge to their friends' and families' mobile phones in the home countries. My primary focus is to establish the company in India and forge its business relationship with mobile operators and then take the product to Middle East. Post my joining Aryty, we have been able to educate the mobile operators on the benefits of mobile airtime gifting product and being able to increase ARPU. It has taken a lot of time to be able to sell the idea and work our way through to the operator environment, but the journey has been fruitful.
Prior to joining Aryty, I was in the Strategic Partner Development (SPD) team at Google as the Head of Content Partnerships at Google. This tenure at Google helped me establish my goals in life. This was yet another start up experience for me as I was the 5th employee at the Sales and Business Development Organization in India. I started in a very challenging environment along with other competent colleagues leveraging each other's skill sets to establish Google's client facing operations in India. It was also my first exposure in reporting to international office and assist in bring some of the successful international products to India. For a brief period I even handled the work of a mobile SPD Manager and acquired the GOOG short code with the Indian mobile operators. My most exciting assignments were getting the partnerships rolling for Google Locals and single headedly managing the business development function in India to help launch YouTube in India. While this gave me the exciting opportunity to work closely with the Bollywood, I also understood that the new media in India had been cluttered with many new players trying to do something in the domain of movies and cricket, while some of the sectors like healthcare were being ignored. My wife Ekta (dental Surgeon) shared this belief and established a company called Mansai Media Services Pvt. Ltd. which developed a health and wellness portal called www.wonderdoctor.com . As we both agreed on the opportunity, I agreed to help her in strategic planning and joined as the member on the board of Mansai Media Services. We both believe in the opportunity and are sure this will succeed soon. Brainstorming to plan the services and its going to market strategy has always been an intellectually stimulating exercise for both of us.
I also had a short stint at the Times Internet Limited from where I had moved on to Google. Times Internet Limited was the digital and new media arm of The Times of India group with its flagship brand being "Indiatimes". I was a part of the telecom team and was involved in spearheading the IVR based Voice Portal for Indiatimes.
My earlier assignments included being a part of the start up team at Data Access India Limited which under partnership with Pacific Century Cyber Works (HK) established in India a private International Long distance calling operations, ISP and online portal called NOW-India. The same company had earlier been into sports marketing. My other assignments included Product Management at a Multimedia company which was pretty much an integrated set up producing multimedia gaming / content, CD replication and distribution.
I have had the opportunity to be associated with business development & content functions through concentrations in Internet and Telecom VAS for over a decade at various levels of decision making with high exposure to strategic & tactical planning, team building & leadership, new business development, international business management and client / vendor relationships.
During this journey I have met some people who impacted my life and my career. You would read about them in other relevant sections in my website.
My website is an endeavour for me to acknowledge the contributions of these people in my life and share with others what I have learnt during my professional and personal journey till now. I will try and update this website as much as I can and regularly.
